Six Months In: What I’m Building, Why It Matters, and What I’m Still Figuring Out

I’ll be honest with you — stepping fully into this space scared me.

Holistic Mystic has been a dream of mine for a few years. But dreams and doing are very different things. About two years ago I took my first real leap — renting space at Ki’smet Co., showing up every week, and deciding I was ready to either sink or swim. Even then, it took a full year of consistent presence before I felt clear about what my purpose and offering were meant to be.

Now, six months into building this more intentionally, I’m still working out some of the kinks. And I’ve decided that’s okay to say out loud.

The wellness journey — however it starts — can be confusing, expensive, and honestly frustrating. I’ve experienced it myself. And I understand that when money is tight and everyone is competing for your time and attention, it’s easy to give up or look for the free option. I’ve been there. Sometimes I’m still there.

Because here’s the thing — when something is new, you don’t want to spend a lot of money without knowing it’s the right fit. That’s completely reasonable. And yet sometimes taking that leap — investing your time, energy, and money — is exactly what’s needed, even when you’re not sure where the money will come from.

I hold all of that in mind as I build Holistic Mystic. Accessibility matters to me deeply — because I believe everyone deserves support on their wellness journey, regardless of where they’re starting from financially. That’s part of why I’ve kept my sessions intentionally affordable, and why helping people understand what their benefits plan already covers is woven into what I do. Wellness support shouldn’t feel like a luxury. It should feel possible and attainable.

And for Canadians specifically — one thing I bring to these conversations that other wellness practitioners can’t is almost 20 years of experience in compensation, group benefits, and pensions. Most people have no idea what their group insurance plan actually covers. That plan sitting in your benefits portal could be funding naturopathic visits, massage therapy, counselling, and more. Part of what I do is help you see and use those resources. Because affordable support isn’t just about low prices — it’s about knowing what you already have access to and building from there.

The Session I Dream of Offering

When I picture what my Intuitive Wellness Sessions look like at their best, I see someone sitting across from me and just — talking. Sharing their story. Because that’s how I work best, whether it’s a tarot reading or a wellness conversation: let’s see what your story is, was, and could potentially be.

As someone shares, both my logical and intuitive sides kick in. They come out alongside the questions: What have you tried? What worked? What felt right but didn’t seem to work out — and can you tell me more about that? Because sometimes what didn’t work was actually the right thing. Something else was off that made it feel like a failure. And because of that experience, a person never goes back to something that could have genuinely helped them.

Most of the time, people just need someone to validate the pattern they’ve already been sensing. That’s a big part of what I offer.

I’ve seen it over and over — in tarot readings, in conversations, in people’s own stories. When something keeps showing up, when a pattern repeats, it’s rarely a coincidence. Most of us just need someone to sit with us and reflect that pattern back so we can finally see it clearly. That’s a big part of what I do.

And honestly? The people in my life do the same for me. Sometimes I’m too close to my own story to see what’s right there — and someone who cares enough to say “hey, have you noticed this?” changes everything. That’s the power of having people in your corner who are really listening. It’s exactly what I aim to be for the people I work with.

Why I Know the Conventional System Isn’t Always Enough

I have deep respect for medical professionals. And I also know from personal experience that sometimes the conventional system hits a wall — not from lack of care, but from lack of time, resources, or an angle that nobody has thought to look at yet.

A few years ago I was constantly, intensely thirsty. Drinking enormous amounts of water, worried about what was happening in my body. The obvious concern was diabetes — but tests kept coming back clear, including a full 24-hour urine collection. My doctor, knowing my needle phobia, was stumped and hesitant to push further. So I did what I now help others do: I talked to everyone on my wellness team. My massage therapist, chiropractor, reflexologist, homeopath, friends, family, coworkers — including people managing Type 1 diabetes who generously shared their experiences with me.

It was a coworker, herself on her own wellness journey, who suggested I look into my prolactin levels — the hormone produced by the pituitary gland that plays a role in many bodily functions, including fluid regulation. My homeopath and I laughed at first — but we followed that thread, and it eventually led us to my pituitary gland. What I was describing was consistent with something having disrupted its function. She gave me a remedy. It took weeks, but it worked. Now I’m only thirsty when I genuinely haven’t had enough water.

Throughout all of this, I kept my doctor in the loop. I wanted to make sure what I was trying wouldn’t cause more harm than good, and I valued her perspective even when it differed from mine. When I reported back that it had resolved, she was happy — but also had a lot of questions. I could tell leaving her office that she was still skeptical. And that’s okay. As time has passed and I haven’t come back with the same concern, I think it’s become a moot point. I respect her skepticism. I also know what worked for me, and I’m at peace with how I got there.

That resolution didn’t come from one practitioner. It came from a team, from open conversation, from someone making a connection nobody else had made. That experience is part of why I believe so deeply in what I’m building.

Who I Most Want to Help

If any of this resonates, you might be exactly who I’m building this for. I’m thinking of the person who is stuck somewhere on their wellness journey — or just beginning and has no idea where to start. The person who is frustrated, knowing things could be better but not sure how to get there. Someone open to exploring beyond the standard medically accepted path, not because they distrust medicine, but because they know there’s more to the picture.

I’m currently welcoming a small number of founding clients into my Intuitive Wellness Sessions — people who want to be part of shaping something that’s still growing, at a rate of $55 that I’ve set intentionally to be accessible. These sessions are a check-in for your whole self — mind, body, and spirit — with someone who will listen to your whole story, not just one piece of it.

I’d love to hear from you — what does your wellness journey look like right now? What feels stuck, unclear, or like it could use a second set of eyes? Drop a comment, send me a message, or simply reach out. Sometimes just starting the conversation is the first step.

With warmth,

Holistic Mystic
