Still in the Waiting Game — And What’s Carrying Me Through It

A few weeks ago I shared that something unexpected had come up with my health and that I was navigating something unknown. I’m still in that waiting game. The details aren’t something I’m ready to share fully — and I may not need to. But what I do want to talk about is what’s been carrying me through it. Because I’ve noticed something about the support around me that I think is worth naming.

Being in the Unknown

Being in the unknown is uncomfortable. It’s scary. It causes anxiety in ways that are hard to predict or control. And with our healthcare system in the state it’s in, the wait for answers can stretch longer than anyone wants. And this waiting space is its own kind of hard — not because something is confirmed, but because nothing is yet.

What I’ve been trying to do is keep a level head. Not by pushing the fear away or pretending it isn’t there — but by dealing with each question and fear as it comes up, one at a time. And how I deal with each one is different. That’s where my wellness team comes in.

Continuing On — With Support

I’ve been continuing to see my practitioners as I normally would — my chiropractor, my massage therapist, etc. — but also reaching back out to others and bumping up appointments where it feels right. I’ve moved up a conversation with my homeopath and had more than one appointment with my counsellor. Each one serves a different purpose and addresses a different layer of what I’m carrying.

And I’m not telling everyone exactly what’s going on. I share what I think each practitioner needs to know in order to help me with what they specifically do. Nothing more is required. They don’t need the full picture to show up for the piece that’s theirs to help hold.

The Different Kinds of Support

I want to be clear — I have family and friends around me too, and each of them brings something different and irreplaceable. Some sit with me in the fear and the unknown. Some have been through similar experiences and help me navigate questions I don’t know or how to ask. Some are simply there in whatever way I need in that moment. That kind of love and presence matters deeply and I don’t want to minimise it.

But practitioner support hits on a different level. And I’ve been thinking about why.

It’s because they are an arm’s length away. They care — genuinely — but they’re not in it the way the people who love you are. They’re not scared for you in the same way. That distance isn’t coldness — it’s actually a gift. It means they can bring specific knowledge, information, and perspective that your closest people simply can’t. They may have walked this road with other clients. They may have their own experience to draw from. And what they offer lands differently because of that.

The Holistic View

When you have a team — even a small one — they naturally cover different layers of you. Some support the physical. Some the mental and emotional. Some the spiritual. Together they hold the whole picture even when no single one of them has it all.

That’s what a holistic wellness team actually means in practice. Not a list of practitioners you see occasionally — but a network of support that you can lean into differently depending on what each moment calls for. And when something uncertain or scary comes up — as it does for all of us eventually — you’re not starting from scratch trying to figure out where to turn. You already know.

There is something else I’ve noticed through all of this that I want to share. My son is part of this season of life too — not in the details, but in the energy of it. And what I’ve watched happen is something that genuinely moves me.

He has started reaching out for more support from his own practitioners. On his own. Recognising that he needs something and asking for it.

To me that is huge. Because children live alongside us through the hard seasons — they feel the energy of what’s happening even when they don’t have all the words for it. And when they watch us reach for support, show up for ourselves, and treat our own wellbeing as something worth tending to — they learn that. They internalise it. And when the moment comes that they need something, they already know that reaching out is what you do.

Building a wellness team isn’t just for you. It’s one of the most powerful things you can model for the people around you — especially the young ones watching closely.

I’m still in the waiting game. But I’m not waiting alone. And that makes all the difference.

If you don’t have a team yet — or if you’re not sure what yours could look like — that’s exactly the kind of conversation my Intuitive Wellness Sessions are built for. You don’t have to wait for something to go wrong to start building it.

Who do you lean on when something uncertain comes up? I’d love to hear what support looks like for you.

With warmth,
